Horse Fun

At the beginning of October, my friend Ruth and I were able to compete in our first endurance ride.  We both spent the weeks leading up to the ride conditioning ourselves and the horses, Red and Flash (we needed more then the horses = D).  My friend and mentor, Shawna, along with her husband, Bill, were our "Pit Crew".  They let us use their trailer, drove us up to the Denver area, fed us, helped with the horses, answered questions and encouraged us.  The ride was 25 miles of fun: water crossings, fields and treed areas.  The weather was beautiful!  We started the ride at 8:30 and did a 17ish mile loop, then had an hour mandatory rest period, followed by by the remaining 8ish miles.  We finished the ride in 3 hours, got "A's" in all our vet checks and were almost in the top 10.  I had a blast and would love to compete in another ride in the future (hopefully a 50 miler next time).

Me and Ruth with Red and Flash getting ready to leave for the ride dark and early in the morning.

Break time!

Lots of horses and people to watch.

And we're off again, ready for the last loop.

Coming in for out final vet check.

Lots of fun!
